The purchaser is responsible for the fees of the public notary and the lawyer acting on his or her behalf together with the government taxes.
Tax on land purchase is around 10% of the assessed value whilst for houses and apartments it is around 12% plus stamp duty of 3%. Public Notary fees are approximately 1.75% of the assessed value plus the registration fee.
You choose your lawyer, who must be registered in Greece. We can also recommend some English speaking Lawyers who live in this area if you would like.
Lawyer fees vary according to the amount of work involved but are approximately 1.5% of the assessed value plus a 1% contribution to the lawyers association as demanded by law.
Each district has a government-appointed Notary Public who is in charge of
the Property Registry for that area, and who draws up the contracts, he/she will
witnesses the signatures and payment and registers the new ownership. The fee
will depend on the value of the property, but is approximately 2 % plus the
registration fee.
The original deeds will be kept in the Property Registry and you will receive an
official copy with colored stamps.
